To review instructional support for literacy service providers and recommend activities to support learner goal acquisition.

Objectives:

Goal 1: Support the training needs of literacy service providers, instructors, volunteer tutors and mentors

Objective 1.1 Provide expanded training opportunities by developing partnerships with local area training providers, especially the Louisiana Department of Education (Adult Education Division)

Objective 1.2 Provide workshops on instructional strategies that best support learner gains

Objective 1.3 Build a clearing house for knowledge and expertise

Objective 1.4 Incorporate functional context learning materials related to workforce, computer, family, health and financial literacy

Objective 1.5 Explore support strategies for adults and youth with learning disabilities

Objective 1.6 Support expansion of training for ESOL learners
 

Goal 2: Support the provision of on-going program improvement through the use of effective curriculum, instruction and best practices

Objective 2.1 Determine how research-based models and practices can best support instruction

Objective 2.2 Identify the needs of programs for information and research about effective curriculum models

Objective 2.3 Participate in WIB efforts to provide services to job seekers with low skills

Objective 2.4 Support business efforts to provide improved skills to incumbent workers

Objective 2.5 Support community college efforts in remedial education
 

Current Accomplishments and Endeavors:

bullet Began the facilitation of monthly Stakeholder Council meetings to deliver training, encourage the sharing of resources, and provide opportunity for collaboration
bullet Developed a twelve month training calendar that addresses not only curriculum, instruction, and best practice, but also organizational development such as funding, strategic planning, and capacity building

2008 Activities:

bullet Implementing the Coalition’s current 12-month Training Calendar and planning for 2009
bullet Beginning the assembly of training teams for workforce, computer, family, health, and financial literacy, with one pilot team to be fully developed by the end of the year
